AFTER-SCHOOL RESIDENCIES

Round House Theatre partners with Parent-Teacher Associations and school teachers and administrators to offer creative dramatics and theatre workshops as part of after-school clubs and enrichment programs. Students are able to participate in these opportunities in the comfort of a known environment and take advantage of school-sponsored transportation (like activity buses). Where available, students pay a reduced tuition price ($75 for a 8-week class, as opposed to $150-$185 for a similar class held on the weekends at Round House Theatre.). Past residencies have been conducted at: Bethesda Elementary, Oakland Terrace Elementary, Rosemary Hills Elementary, Kemp Mill Montessori School, Sligo Creek Elementary, Woodlin Elementary School, East Silver Spring Elementary, Highland View Elementary, Grace Episcopal Day School, Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, Washington Grove Elementary School.

Residency Models

The Education & Outreach staff works closely with partnering schools to ensure that After-School Residency content is tailored to the interests and grade level of participants. Popular residency models include:
  • Total Body Theatre This residency engages the entire child—body, voice and mind—through creative dramatics and basic theatrical storytelling exercises. All activities are sure to excite the imagination, inspire the creation of marvelous characters, and show their adventures through theatre.
  • Destination: Anywhere Each week students will be presented with a new location—from Outer Space to Antarctica—that they learn about through imagination games, and then create and act-out their own characters and stories. The residency introduces students to a variety of cultures and different time periods while teaching fundamentals of theatre.
  • Stories Come Alive Ever wondered what a story would look like in live-action? In this residency participants will create a short play based around famous stories and works of children's literature. From Curious George to Snow White, the possibilities are endless to help children's imaginations soar.
