Intersections is Round House Theatre’s in-school theatre residency program designed for English, Language Arts, and Reading classrooms. The program provides students and teachers arts-based strategies for reading and interpreting literature.
Created in conjunction with Maryland’s Voluntary State Curriculum and Essential Learner Outcomes for Fine Arts (Theatre), Intersections aims to provide students with engaging, interactive, and fun ways to read, analyze and respond to literature by reading a literary work as if preparing to use it in a theatrical production. RHT provides teaching artists to facilitate in-class workshops at participating schools to teach, explore and discuss different aspects of theatre, including script analysis, acting, and sound, set and costume design (script writing incorporated for 8th grade and higher). Students create a portfolio of material over the course of the residency. The program culminates with a final in-class project, analyzing a new selection of literature, and with the students attending an RHT production and evaluating the production choices. Every Intersections residency is directly linked to a Round House Theatre production.
